The Academy is very proud to have a World Champion in Year 11 pupil Callum King.

Callum was crowned champ at the 2017 International Contact Organisation World Cup in North Solihull in late October where he won the gold medal in the martial arts 65kg category. At the same event Callum also won a bronze medal for kickboxing.

The ICO event attracted some of the best young martial arts talent from across the globe, including New Zealand, Brazil, Spain and Russia.

Our Executive Principal Helen Mackenzie congratulated Callum on his achievement. She said,

“Everyone at Highfield is incredibly proud of Callum. He embodies our STAR value of ambition perfectly, working hard to achieve his goals and be the very best that he can be. I have no doubt that we will continue to hear good things about Callum and his progress in the martial arts world.”

Callum King commented,

“I couldn’t believe it when I was selected to compete in something as big as the World Championships. To place first was an unbelievable experience, especially as it was the first time I had competed at this level. I am now looking forward to setting new goals and continuing my training.”
